If I were an owner of a golf course,
I would have a friendly greeter on the premise that would hand out
flyers with a calendar of the events, promotions, and tournaments for
the month and any league information. Coupons
for that day would be available to those who were unable to print them
out from their computer. All the personnel will have the same attire and
their shirts tucked in. On the holes where the balls are lost
frequently, there would be spotters (both male and female) on the course
to assist players locate their balls.
I would employ starters that are
friendly and well informed on the layout of the course. A starter should
be like an ambassador; he uses tactics that are diplomatic in arranging
groups. Example: joining
twosomes, adding singles to other groups of less than four, helping to
promote a good golf pace and an enjoyable round.
The starter would be responsible for insuring the safety and
comfort of the handicapped golfer.
He would explain to them that blue stakes have been placed near
the greens where it has been determined to be safest and place for them
to park their carts.
On a busy day, raise money for a
charity. This small one hole
event will be designed in a manner that would not affect the pace of
play. The head golf
professional or an assistant golf professional would be on a hole with
some sort of challenge. The contest will be printed and handed out to
the players on the first tee. The challenge hole will be midway through
the first nine.
All golf carts will have a clean
appearance, tees and a bottle of water for the golfer. There would be a
cooler on the cart to hold cool beverages.
There would be a large bulletin
board outside the club house entrance with a tip on golf.
There may also be an interesting article written by the head
professional or assistant professional.
There would be practice sand traps
with a nice green at the bunker side, a putting area and a chipping area
with its own green.
There would be a Welcome table
inside the club house with free doughnuts and coffee for the early
players.
There would be a signup sheet for a
night scramble Tournament. The golfers would be encouraged to maintain a
handicap.
The course would have nice
landscaping with flower beds and plants on various holes. There would be
ropes and arrows 30 feet from the greens to protect the approach areas.
Design the cart part wider than most
in order to maintain the area between the cart path and the course
looking nice.
Allow golf carts to be taken to the
parking lot.
Have a beverage cart available
unless pouring rain and lightening.
There would be a large one for busy days and a smaller one for
other days. There would be a
golf cart on each of the nine holes
that are fully stocked.
The bathrooms would be spotless.
An employee would check the bathrooms several times during the
day.
Have a big TV, live music, and a
long happy hour.
One of the special events is to have
a buffet at lunch once a week.
There would be an annual picnic and
scramble for the employe.es and their family members.
Coupled with all the above I would
have competitive rates.
